Acerca del evento

Although individuals, families and communities have become more open and knowledgeable about substance use and addiction, the process of recovering from a substance use disorder is much less discussed or understood. This workshop will help fill that gap by presenting different definitions of recovery, data about recovery rates, and factors that can help or hinder recovery, highlighting examples from rural communities. Some topics we’ll discuss are evolving views about abstinence, and how our personal experiences with recovery—whether from addiction, an illness, an injury or other challenge—can help us understand the recovery process, with its rewards, setbacks and potential to transform lives. We’ll also discuss ways recovery housing and recovery-friendly employers can support people in recovery, focusing on tools, strategies and resources available to help rural communities expand these options.

Presenter: Susan Stellin, MPH
