ROTA Overview

The need for an innovative opioid response is particularly clear in rural areas, which face unique social, economic, and infrastructure challenges. The USDA Extension program and SAMHSA have developed the ROTA program to address the opioid crisis in rural areas. ROTA grantees have experienced great success, demonstrating agile and nuanced solutions for the unique needs of each region served. This document provides an overview of work undertaken by ROTA grantees.

Rural Health Information Hub

The Rural Health Information Hub, formerly the Rural Assistance Center, is funded by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to be a national clearinghouse on rural health issues. The RHI Hub is committed to supporting healthcare and population health in rural communities, serving as a guide to improving health for rural residents. The RHI Hub provides access to current and reliable resources and tools to help you learn about rural health needs and work to address them.

SAMHSA Rural Recovery Innovations

Discover innovative solutions to improve behavioral health in rural, frontier, and tribal communities. This resource highlights how to address unique challenges like higher overdose and suicide rates, while leveraging strengths like strong community bonds and healing outdoor spaces. Learn about expanding peer and family support services to promote equity, enhance the workforce, and provide greater access to recovery services in rural areas.
